He scored 56 points in one game while 23 rebounds in another match and earned CIF L.A. City Section first-team honors in 2003. Young received honors of ‘2004 CIF L.A. City Section, Los Angeles Times All-City, and San Fernando Valley first team for scoring 27.2 points and 10.8 rebounds as a senior in 2004 at Cleveland High School. HoopScoop announced Nick Young as the 7th best player in the country. Frank Burlison listed him in the Top 50 recruits of 2004.

Now to begin his college career, Young played for the USC team from 2004-2007. Nick Young escorted fifth-seeded Trojans to a dock in Sweet Sixteen. He also led USC to win against Arkansas by scoring 77-60 in the first round whereas he led USC to win against the Texas Longhorns by scoring 87-68 in the second round.

On 15th April 2007, Young made an announcement to the Los Angeles Times about quitting his senior year to become a basketball professional.

Nick Young entered the 2007 NBA draft and started playing for the ‘Washington Wizards’ after getting selected with the 16th overall pick. He played his first NBA game against the ‘Sacramento Kings’ on 15 December 2007. He played another game against the Sacramento Kings’ on 11 January 2011 and scored career highest 43 points.

On 15 March 2012, Nick Young got traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. Later on, on 16 April 2012, he played against the ‘Oklahoma City Thunders’. Young helped the Clippers in securing their first playoff berth by scoring 19 points in six years.

Nick Young signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers on 12 July 2012. Later he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on 11 July 2013.

Nick Young scored a career-high 17.9 points per game in the 2013-2014 season. He even led the Lakers to achieve a record of seven four-point plays. On 21 July 2014, Young re-signed a four-year contract with the Lakers for $21.5 million. He missed six to eight weeks of his training due to a severe tear injury of the radial collateral ligament in his right thumb. After his absence in the first ten games of this season, Young played the season’s debut game against the Atlanta Hawks on 18 November 2014. He won the game 114-109 by scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. On 12 December 2014, Young won against the San Antonio Spurs by scoring 29 points in a 112-110 score.

On 30 November 2016, Young was not allowed to play games for two to four weeks because of his strained right calf muscle. However, he made his comeback and made a remarkable eight three-pointers with a great loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. On 2 April 2017, the Lakers benched Young for their remaining games of the season 2017-2018. After this, Young became an unrestricted free agent on 21 June 2017.

Later on, on 7 July 2017, Young signed with the Golden State Warriors. He played his debut game for the Warriors on 17 October 2017 and impressed the crowd by hitting six 3-pointers. Young scored 23 points in this game which resulted in a 122-121 loss to the ‘Houston Rockets.’ He also helped the Warriors in entering the 2018 NBA Finals.

 In the NBA Finals of 2018, the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers by winning 4 games in a sweep. These Finals led Young in winning his first NBA Championship. On 10 December 2018, Nick Young signed with the ‘Denver Nuggets.’ He played four games for the Nuggets and after 20 days he was relinquished by the Nuggets on 30 December 2018.

Aside from playing basketball, Nick Young has also been working for humanitarian causes in order to fight against gang violence. He is the founder of the “Nick Young Foundation” which provides support and psychiatric services to the victims of gang violence.
