Hildebrand helped them invent SRN systems, commonly known as navigation systems or GPS systems. In 1976, after earning a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, he got skilled in signal processing and linear estimation theory. With his knowledge, he started helping Exxon in tracking locations. Later, Andy started working in the Production Research Division of Exxon. His first research work in this company was on processing seismic data.

Andy founded his first solitary workstation of seismic data analysis four years later and continued working in the geographical division till 1989. He founded Landmark graphics in 1982 to find the solution for one of the oil problems Exxon faced. Andy interpreted data by measuring sound levels beneath the earth’s surface to find out if there was oil. After realizing that he had saved the company $500 million approximately, he decided to start his own adventure. In 1989, Andy Hildebrand sold Landmark Graphics to Halliburton for $525 million.

After winding up his oil engineering career, Andy focused on music and creating songs. In 1989, Andy Hildebrand joined the Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Texas. Andy created an audio engineering company named Antares Audio Technology in 1990. He began studying different sample synthesizers to create music at university. Hildebrand was not satisfied with the sample music, so he decided to invent better technology. Andy Hildebrand invented Auto-Tune in 1997 using his geophysical and audio-level knowledge.
